SPLIT MY SOUL
ALL WE SEE. IS ALL WE ARE. IS ALL WITHIN.
Split My Soul by Kelsie Steil is a riveting dance-theater production that explores the conflict and integration between seven complex characters: The People's Jester, Lady Martyre, Fizzy Head, Mystery Man, Twisted Mistress, The Kid, and Your Inevitable Death. These characters will work with and against one another, exposing their inner stories and perils, and navigating locally crafted set pieces such as stairs, textural walls, and a plethora of ropes. Set to an original score by renowned composer Michael Wall, Split My Soul provides a cathartic visual and sonic experience to unpack mental health challenges and scenarios. Steil believes the theatrical embodiment of internal characters and archetypes can help heal relationships, build empathy for the attributes and tendencies of ourselves and others, and shift perspectives towards the people and stories of our lives.

WHAT WE'RE CURRENTLY WORKING ON

NOTE FROM THE CHOREOGRAPHER...
Fresh from completing a rigorous summer-long Commedia dell’Arte training undertaken specifically for this production, we are now in a work-in-progress stage, refining the choreography and expanding the show’s reach after its January 2025 premiere at City Theater in Biddeford. Through this focused work-in-progress stage, I will deepen character clarity, strengthen the choreographic throughline, and refine the interplay between movement, story, and psychological nuance. Weekly rehearsals intensives will focus on character clarity, emotional resonance, and theatrical tools such as gesture, timing, and physicality, while fostering collaboration, improvisation, and experimentation.
