GATEWAYS
WHAT WILL YOU SEE WHEN LIFE FLASHES BEFORE YOUR EYES? HOW THIN IS THE SPACE BETWEEN OUR DEAREST MOMENTS? WHAT FILLS THOSE THIN SPACES? WHY DOES IMMENSE JOY STAND SO CLOSE TO TOTAL DEATH? DO CERTAIN MOMENTS FEEL INFINITE TO YOU? ARE THOSE MOMENTS GATEWAYS TO A UNIVERSAL TRUTH? HOW CAN WE GUIDE ONE ANOTHER THROUGH THESE DARK MYSTERIES OF LIFE? WHAT HAPPENS IN THE MOMENT BEFORE THE GRAND GATEWAY?
Gateways is a work-in-progress dance work that explores moments of transition and liminality. The piece engages questions of memory, time, and the thin space between joy and loss through movement and character.
Dancers Janelle Abott Staley, Cara Burke, Jacqui DeFranca, Hannah Haines, Olivia Robbins, Lorelei Samon.
Performed at The Dance Annex's 2025 Now New Next Showcase.
